Ten-Year Anniversary and Giveaway

I'm thrilled you're here reading this blog that began ten years ago. Whether you just found the blog or have been reading for a decade, I'd love to tell you how this blog...and a book...began. (Keep reading to enter the giveaway.)

It was August 2014. I was reading The Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis to my children. At the same time, we were reading a companion family guide to it called Roar! by Heather and David Kopp.

My children loved the books of Narnia. AND they loved the guide that helped them to learn more about the fantasy land. The book helped us to really immerse ourselves in the land of Narnia. We even made Turkish Delight with a recipe from the book.

We hadn't been reading for long when I realized I wanted to write a book like that! A book about a book--or a series of books. I quickly knew what books I wanted to explore: the Little House books.

At that point, I'd already taken a handful of writing courses. I had a few publishing credits through small magazines. I knew enough about the publishing world to understand I had a lot to learn. I also knew it'd be fun to connect with Little House fans through a blog.

So, on September 1, 2014 I published my first blog post here. At the time, this blog was titled Little House Companion. You can still see the watermark on older blog posts' pictures. I didn't talk about the book idea (because I might not land a publishing contract, and I was insecure), but I shared some of what I learned through my research. And I shared some of the Little House recipes, crafts, and activities I planned for my book.

I learned a lot and loved researching. I blogged. I submitted my manuscript. And I cried. The process was long. If you're curious, you can read about the story behind The Laura Ingalls Wilder Companion part 1 and part 2

And I continued to blog (though not as frequently as I'd prefer since I have book contracts to fulfill)! But I thought we should celebrate ten years of The Laura Ingalls Wilder Companion BLOG. (The book is only four years old!)
Giveaway: I'm giving away one signed copy of my book titled The Laura Ingalls Wilder Companion: A Chapter-by-Chapter Guide to one reader with a US shipping address.

Please note, if you already have a copy of The Laura Ingalls Wilder Companion, I am happy to substitute another book I wrote for the winner.
