The Laura Ingalls Wilder Companion: A Chapter-by-Chapter Guide began with an idea in 2014. But long before that I wanted to know more about Laura Ingalls Wilder and her Little House books. As a girl, I was amazed to realize the little girl in the Little House stories grew up to write about her life. I wondered if she exaggerated the brutality of The Long Winter. Was every word true? 

Spoiler alert: I researched and wrote about that winter and some fictionalized elements of the Little House books in The Laura Ingalls Wilder Companion: A Chapter-by-Chapter Guide!

As an adult, I returned to the stories. Then I began to research out of curiosity. Then the research intensified six years ago. That's when I realized I could write a book about the Little House books. For young readers! (I had already been published in a few magazines at that point. I was an experienced writer, but I still had a lot to learn as a kidlit writer.)
