Pancake Men from Ma Ingalls

Ma made the children pancake men for a special treat on Christmas morning in Little House in the Big Woods. Each child took a turn watching Ma spoon the pancake batter in the shape of a man.

Delight your own children the same way Ma thrilled hers. My own children didn't mind that the pancake people were not perfectly formed. They thought they were wonderful.

  1. Make your favorite pancake batter and follow the recipe’s instructions to prepare the griddle.
  2.  Using a spoon, place a spoonful of batter on the griddle for the head.
  3. Working quickly, add the arms, body, and legs.
  4.  When the edges are all dry and bubbly, flip your pancake person over, using a spatula. You may want to cook the people a little longer than usual so it does not break when flipping.
  5. Add mini chocolate chips for eyes, if you like.
  6. When the underside is brown, place the pancake person on a plate.
  7. Enjoy with butter and maple syrup or brown sugar.
Sorry for the poor picture quality. I made three pancake people (one for each of my children), and this was the best picture.
